Whitney • "You've Got A Woman" / "Gonna Hurry (As Slow As I Can)"
As Chicago continues 2017 with ground breaking success, northside septet “Whitney” release two tracks by way of Indiana record label Secretly Canadian, expect a 12” this coming June. Largely known for their work in Light Upon the Lake, Singer/Drummer Julien Ehrlich and Guitarist Max Kakacek have received several accolades since dropping the album in June. Ranked 33rd on The Guardian’s “Best Albums of 2016,” Whitney enters the year disposed of any haste for the completion of their next album.
Well versed in Country and Soul the band make an ideal matchup for these songs. As an admirer of their catchy ballad “You’ve Got a Woman,” Julien Ehrlich approached the Lion’s cover with feverish inspiration. A falsetto singer himself, Julien is a perfect combination for the band’s instrumentation. Originally an unreleased gem, Dolly Parton’s ‘Gonna Hurry(As Slow As I Can)’ makes the b-side of the record an upbeat sorrow hewn from strings, keys, and that unique Whitney flavor. Geared up for a lengthy Euro-North American tour starting this Saturday, we won’t see a live Whitney performance until May 7th in Bloomington, Illinois, however, do expect to see the full band at Lollapalooza this summer before their headlining their tour in the Fall. Waiting may prove difficult, but until then, let The Light Upon the Lake keep your 2017 as lit as possible.
