Kweku Collins, Iris Temple, Jaro, San Soma • "Sunburns"
Myself and producer Jaro have been arranging and coordinating weekday musical collaborations at Jaro's home studio. These one-off 'on the fly' creations bring together numerous talents from around the city, often blending together subcultures and "scenes" into one experimental effort. Back in the beginning of August, we helped to curate and release the track "Sleeping". The song was the first in our ongoing collaborative series between Chicago creatives, featuring bleeklino, Ju, Yomi, Melo Makes Music, BoatHouse, and Morimoto. All packed into one cramped room.
Keeping it as posse heavy as possible, the second session to be released arrives in the form of "Sunburns". Featuring Kweku Collins (on vocals and production assistance) with buzzing Chicago duo Iris Temple (vocals and producer), vocalist/bassist San Soma, and Jaro, the result is a whirlwind that somehow manages to clock in under three minutes. Beginning with elements of blues and soul, the song quickly takes a turn for the more energized, finishing in a hypnotized frenzy of wordplay and bass. You might need to give it a second spin in order to catch it all. Following the two releases up above and down below, expect (at least) two more "Weekday" tracks around the corner.
