Whitney • "Polly"
It's been a year of breakthrough successes, but perhaps none has been more seemingly organic or well-orchestrated than that of local outfit Whitney, who returned this week with another new visual, this one for their single. "Polly".
Ever blurring the lines on stereotypes and lifestyles, Whitney has been a breath of fresh air since stepping out of the ashes of the Smith Westerns just a little over a year and a half ago. Appearing to truly reflect the mentality and aesthetic of the epoch they represent in their understanding of Chicago today, the band has emerged as a voice for a growing indie scene locally that has swelled alongside several other local movements. Frontman Julien Ehrlich has continued to emerge as one of the most memorable vocalists available anywhere in the country, a testament that isn't lost on this one. The visual is an animated affair that also builds on the group's penchant for interesting, story-driven video accompaniment that has paced the group over the course of their welcome rise. Having hit the ground running in the wake of several previous projects, the members of Whitney are proving that wisdom is well-served with another well-packaged release to boot. Currently on break from a lengthy tour, the guys head back out next month, hitting a string of dates across the Atlantic in Europe to close out what has been a banner year for the group.
