Round Up • New Releases From Legit, Rich Robbins, D. Phelps & More

Each week the These Days staff comes across great music from Chicago artists that we could not provide individual features for. In an effort to keep our readers up to date with more of our recent favorites, the Round Up segment provides quick summaries and additional noteworthy content. Check out our latest picks below and feel free to submit a comment if you feel we missed something.

D Phelps • "The Michael Tape"

Chicago raised producer D. Phelps starts the summer off right by releasing his latest project “The Michael Tape”. A 27 minute project filled with inspiration from the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. This isn’t likely the first time you’ve heard D. Phelps, and it won't likely be the last. His work with Chicago’s own Stefan Ponce, Vic Mensa and Ohana Bam has made D. Phelps a name to watch for.

Formally Unknown • "Addison Dreams EP"

Formally Unknown is yet one piece of the neon puzzle that is Them Flavors, a Chicago crew known for throwing the best parties around town, on top of being quite the skilled collective of DJ's. Now Formally Unknown has released the Addison Dreams EP, a mandatory play for any modern dance fans with the soul of an old-school Chicago house-head. Bringing driving beats and an ear for sonic texture, Addison Dreams is a short but intoxicating dive into pure movement. Unknown or not, all you really need to know is that right about now any Them Flavors parties or releases need to be sitting in the must attend / must listen list.

Legit • "Fatality"

We tweaked slightly on missing this drop when it first came out. A now rare release from Chicago's legit surfaced a couple weeks back and its already leaving fans of Legit's music wanting more. Legit doesn't litter the internet with every verse he records, but when he does drop its flawless victories every round. Showing no mercy on the TyYouGenius produced "Fatality", Legit gives us a glimmer of hope for more new music in the future.

Marcus Nogood • "Come & Go"

Marcus Nogood aka Señor NoBueno drops his second song of the year. Following up on his last release "Ls", "Come and Go" is a song that discusses the importance of avoiding unfaithful women while searching for the right one. As Marcus puts it, "things come and go" in this life, yet we believe Marcus is here to stay.

Rich Robbins • "Feel So Rich"

It’s always hard approaching your second project, and the term “Sophomore Slump” always gets brought up. Rich Robbins decided to prove that he can follow up his debut with another great project. In 2015, Robbins dropped his debut album Nimbus where he showed his progression from a boy to a man. It's 2016 and he’s back with his second project, “All This Gold”. Now a University of Wisconsin graduate, Rich Robbins looks to be “the voice between the streets and scholarship”.

UG Vavy • "Ms. Parker"

Whether UG Vavy is producing or rapping, he's always delivering Fuego. Recently we saw UG Vavy team up with Supa and Shepard Hues to create Chicago's new rap trio Fight Me, but today he's on his solo grind. "Ms. Parker" is the title of his new track, which is a reference to the now classic movie Friday. Fascinated by older women, UG croons "Age aint nothing but a number" to his grown woman crush. The summer is just getting started and UG Vavy still has "Diamond" coming soon. It's going to be a productive season for the fast rising newcomer.
