Highness • 'The Highness Collective EP'
For most of the last four months or so we have been bringing you a consistent offering of dope visuals, singles and collaborative efforts from the talented grouping of young women from the 'Go that have assembled themselves into a workable entity as the Highness Collective, which dropped off it's second assembly of music today under the auspice of The Highness Collective EP which follows 2015's Young Taboo and find the group at once more understood and freely moving than we have ever seen, or heard, them before.
One distinct difference between the rollout of this project when compared to the release of Young Taboo has been the increased focus placed on the individuals that make up the whole. In recent months we've seen singles from Loona Dae, Gem Tree and Schenay Mosely respectively. Each of them brought about a different side or aspect of the group at large that comes into play whenever all of the facets of Highness come together to form something like the six song offering. That sentiment also prepared listeners for the project as a whole, which plays with aspects of each individual's respective part in the group and turns it into something that is wholly unique and endlessly soulful. The tweak in make up of the group comes as Highness has really re-asserted itself to the art, investing in a recording and rehearsal space and generally diving back into the grind of things with a willful exuberance. In that sense, this project is just the beginning and with it, the ladies have been able to continue to carve a distinctive lane unto themselves.
