Qari & Morimoto • DON'T BUY THAT
Christmas is still a couple weeks away, but Qari and producer Morimoto surprise all their fans with an impromptu EP, DON'T BUY THAT. Since Hurt Everybody's split earlier in the year, Qari hasn't released a ton of new music and fans have patiently awaited his first full length solo tape. While that wait isn't quite over yet, Qari and his roommate Morimoto have a little 4 track appetizer to curb your appetite.
You might be in the midst of spending entirely too much money on Christmas gifts for loved ones this season, but with DON'T BUY THAT, there's no purchase necessary. These collaborators only ask you to invest some time to give their EP a proper listen. Funky and experimental sonically, Qari and Morimoto crafted each of the EP's 4 tracks from their Logan Square apartment. The warmth and comfort of their studio setting is conveyed on each track, and they even call on old friend Jommis (of Beach Jesus) to contribute a little something as well.
The EP may not be the full length we've been chomping at the bit for, but it's a great glimpse at the various sides of Qari as he takes a short break from working with long time collaborator Mulatto Beats and lays down verses over he and Morimoto's collaborative production. I'm sure we're in store for plenty more from all parties mentioned above in the near future, but until then spend some time absorbing DON'T BUY THAT.
