Bobby Swan • "Skyhaven"

As our own instrumental expert Neonpajamas would tell you, one of the best aspects of Chicago's music now-a-days is the proliferation of small name, big talent producers who are constantly dropping new tracks, subtly shaping the music landscape with life by a thousand cuts. Bobby Swan may have only one song besides this on soundcloud (a juke track) but you can count him in the mix. "Skyhaven" is an ambient world that Bobby Swan slowly builds from the ground up. It's far from party music but Bobby Sky imbues "Skyhaven" with dreamlike energy.

Brill • "Lay You Down"

With less than a handful of tracks released, the Save Money crooner Brill makes his first appearance of the new year with "Lay You Down". Produced by Davi$ Dope, "Lay You Down" should be reserved for days just like today. Call bae and lock yourself in side for the day. It's cold outside and Brill's got the perfect soundtrack for a day spent at home.

Danny Arcane (Ft. Jayne Joyce & AR Wesley) • "Ride or Die"

"Ride Or Die" loads all the bases. From production to rapping to the singing on the hook, everything is on-point. Danny Arcane, is a rapper from Milwaukee, also the home of singer Jayne Joyce and rapper AR Wesley. The beat has a riff that transports you into an LA 80's crime movie, and that's an undeniably cool position to be creating a song out of. "Ride Or Die" is an excellent finished product with no rough edges, and another sick contribution from the exciting Milwaukee rap community.

Montana of 300 • "Milly Rock (Remix)" & "White Iverson (Remix)"

Getting back to his roots, Montana of 300 foregoes original production to beast over "Milly Rock" and "White Iverson". Two more of the industries most popular records have been effectively commandeered by one of Chicago's more mysteriously popular figures. I'd expect plenty more freestyles and original bangers in the new year form Montana.

Silver • "Expected"

Chicago artist Silver takes a trip back to the blues days of the city with "Expected", a song that you want to believe was recorded in a cloud of beer and smoke. This is bar - rap alright, just definitely not in the "popping bottles" sense. This track is lost in a haze, the only light punctuating through being the chirps of guitar, a songstress's sample and Silver himself letting himself be guided through the fog.
