Looking Ahead • Mick Jenkins @ Metro 10/8
2015 for Mick Jenkins has been the definition of success. Following the release of Mick's breakout mixtaoe, The Waters, he embarked on his first major tour as support for Joey Bada$$ and shortly thereafter Mick announced that he joined Joey as part of the Cinematic Music Group family. Since 2014, Mick has called Cinematic home, and he and his team carefully crafted their next move which would turn out to the Waves EP.
If you're reading this, I'm certain Waves is still very fresh in your mind, and if it's not, perhaps it's time for a refresher course. The 8 track EP launched Mick onto a whole new level as an artist and fueled the buzz necessary to sell out venues across the country. Just a year ago Mick was a supporting act, but now he, his DJ Green Sllime, The Mind (of THEMpeople) and supporting act STWO are responsible for filling the seats on their own, and they don't seem to be having any trouble with that. As they wrap an extensive U.S. tour that began at the end of August shortly after the release of Waves, Mick and the team return to Chicago for a short homestand that begins with his first headlining appearance at the Metro on Chicago's north side.
Like many before him, Mick's appearance at one of the most renown music venues in the city is a right of passage. The 1100 capacity space has hosted local legends like The Smashing Pumpkins, Kanye West, and Fall Out Boy over the years prior to each group's rise to fame. The Metro continues that tradition by inviting more recent Chicago staples like Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, and now Mick Jenkins to grace their stage. Tickets remain available as I write this, but It anticipate Chicago coming out in hoards to support one of their home town favorites, so act fast and hit our events page to pick up tickets and ensure you make it through the door.
If you miss this event, there's no telling when your next chance to see Mick Jenkins in Chicago will be. Following a short break after Thursday night's show, Mick and the team will jet set across the pond to bring Waves to listeners in the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and everywhere else in Europe that's messing with the southern born and Chicago raised Mick Jenkins. If you're in Chicago, don't miss tomorrow night, you already know what Mick is capable of on stage. If you're in Europe, prepare to experience one of the best Chicago has to offer, Mick makes drinking water cool!
