Pitchfork Music Festival 2022 • Staff Takes

As few members of our editorial team connected on our coverage of Pitchfork Music Festival this morning, there was one main takeaway from the conversation that we noted: whether rain and/or thunderstorms are in this weekend’s forecast, our collective excitement for this year’s fest hasn’t faded.

While some of our staff has planned out their schedule for the weekend ahead of the fest, others are going to decide their schedules in the moment. Even those who aren’t able to physically be at the festival will be tuning into the Live Stream from a distance. This collective enthusiasm is shared by Chicagoans and music fans based in our city each year as the festival approaches. (Can’t forget to give a shoutout to friends and attendees traveling from out of town too – we see you!!) Now that Day 1 has arrived, the greater music community will get to experience another weekend packed with live performances from artists both at the festival and Chicago’s Independent Venues for Pitchfork After Shows.

We invite you to take a quick read through some of our staff’s takes on this year’s edition of P4K below, calling out aspects of the fest they’re most excited for and championing artists they’re looking forward to watching this weekend. You can also stay close to These Days’ Instagram for live coverage and documentation of this year’s fest from the eyes of our editors Iman Music, Ellie Naughton and Halle Mohr throughout the weekend.

I love this year we see a day packed with all female headliners, including the incredible Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast. Someone I’m really excited to see in particular is Ethel Cain.
— Tia Porcincula
Super excited to experience not only Pitchfork for the first time, but also a lot of my favorite artists as well! Definitely looking forward to seeing sets from Noname and Earl this weekend.
— Ellie Naughton
Super stoked to go back a second year and catch exciting performances! Really looking forward to Noname and Cupcakke but also finding new artists :).
— Iman Music
In addition to the incredible music, I’m looking forward to the fashion! This festival is notorious for bringing together those with unique, refreshing and super exciting outfits.
— Hannah Gonzalez
The closeness of the stages is one of my favorite parts of Pitchfork. With each one in sight, I’m able to get in as many shows as possible. Can’t wait to see Earl then Tirzah back-to-back!
— Halle Mohr
Noname returning to Chicago to perform in front of her hometown crowd is worth the price of admission alone. CupcakKe and Kaina are also local favorites, amidst an admittedly lean list of options, that will surely captivate audiences with their sets. All three are at the top of my can’t-miss-list for the weekend.
— Pedro Gonzalez
