Ruby Watson • ACT II: Slashandburn Archetype (Official Video)

Produced by Mr River • Shot, Directed & Edited by Miles Hogerty

Ruby Watson’s raps are charismatic. Whether he’s trading-off verses with Joshua Virtue on a Free Snacks record or taking the spotlight on his own track, Watson never fails to emanate one of the most authentic persona’s you’ll have the pleasure of coming across.

Today, we see Ruby’s optimism and originality shine through in a new visual for “ACT II: Slashandburn Archetype”, a single off his upcoming sophomore project Carry Me (set to release March 6th.) The video finds Ruby casually wandering through Chicago’s Ukrainian Village as he reflects on his imperfectly-perfect position in life. He shares an important message with those who may also feel the weight of any challenges or struggles we are faced with; that these stressors are certainly not everlasting, and our best is yet to come.

“boy I ain’t slept in 7 days // just thinkin’ bout the mess I’ve made // tryna open heavens gates // the first time we locked eyes, the second time I felt alive // no medals on my neck, till I settle mamas debts or at least get past regrets // mix the spinach with the artichoke , she said my art is dope // got my heart up in my throat and all your makeup on my coat // miss another fuckin’ payment on these loans to cop a little dope to cope with all the waves, I learned to float // I got my head up at the sun // I know my best is yet to come // I tend to stress i gotta run // know I’m a mess the rest a guess so blessed i stress we all die dumb yeah this a baptism been rebirthed from all they isms // I’m the fire in the sky the sun the shine i am the slashandburn archetype.... destruction for a higher life.”
