「lasko」 • Float
Chicago producer lasko has come a long way since arriving on my radar back in 2014. In the two years, he's gone from jazzy sampled loops to constructing his own original compositions, gathering insight and inspiration from all over. After releasing music with Femdot and Malcolm London, and after assisting with our Tokens compilation earlier this year, as well as scattering a few loose singles about, he gives us the seven song project Float. We premiered the single "So Far Gone" with Jaro last month and now Float is here in full force. Since it dropped yesterday, I'm still digesting and gathering my thoughts about this instrumental album (excluding vocal samples), but what better way to find out about this project than by pressing play and discovering the sound for yourself? Expect plenty of bass, expect plenty of exotic and lush sounds, expect some video game feels, and expect, as lasko describes it, "a year's worth of dynamic sounds." Listen closely enough and you might even hear a vocal sample from The Weeknd. A personal favorite here is "Together".
