Adamn Killa • 'Mr. 650: The Mixtape'
Don't let anyone tell you there's no value in a name. While rap in general has always been known for colorful monikers and off-kilter nicknames, as we've moved into the genre's fourth decade they've only gotten more interesting and memorable. None moreso than Adamn Killa, who emerged on my radar during the early days of TheseDays Radio about a year ago and has since stayed on my short list of acts locally, if not only for his inspired yet understated ad-libs. It's been a minute since we heard from Adamn, opting to spend the summer cooking up but just before the weekend that spell ended with the release of Mr. 650 The Mixtape.
Blending several tones, Adamn has created a sort of narrow lane unto himself with a sort of meandering vocal leaning that pulls from drug-fueled street acts like Chief Keef and Lucki Eck$ while proving in the same breath he has the ability to breathlessly narrate the happenings of his city. On this one, we get a collection of joints that place Adamn side by side with DP Beats who himself is coming off a talented string of collaborative releases, most recently with Keef. While he may have been somewhat quiet during the summer months, Adamn seems to thrive in the ominous months of Fall and Winter so keep an eye out for some new work coming soon.
