Calid B. (Ft. Sam Trump & Party Noire) • "Gold"
It's the theme of this summer apparently; new music by the bundles from seemingly every direction. Last week we got to know Ohio native and Chicago transplant Calid B on his Nathan Salter-directed visual for "Parasites" and dude returned just before the Fourth of July weekend to deliver another one closely on the heels of that with "Gold" an ode to the fine women in everyone's lives.
The single is the first off Calid's upcoming project, AfroBang due out in the next month and comes underlined by a pair of dope features as Sam Trump and Party Noire show up for this one. Possessing a jazzy sense that comes delivered with the overpowering bassline, Calid shows off a distinctly different side musically than we got last week. Honestly, there's been a really cool scene developing down in Hyde Park with Promontory, Party Noire and Calid has emerged as a voice for the sort of Afro-centric movement brewing in the backyard of the University of Chicago. Music is an outgrowth of life and they've been having a lot of fun at the monthly, building the aesthetic into something that can travel, and did recently for both Calid's listening party and Jamila's release show at Double Door. It's some really awesome, positive vibes happening and this one is indicative of that spirit.
