Brian Fresco (Ft. Chance The Rapper & Blue Hawaii) • Higher
If you haven't heard already, we're in the midst of the SaveMoney Summer. The 6ix God might have made early claim to Summer 2016, but it's been the Chicago boys who have paced it thus far, a trend that continues this week as yet another side of the squad emerges in preparation for his upcoming full-length project with Brian Fresco delivering a true anthem for the warmer time of the year in his single "Higher" featuring none other than Chance The Rapper and Blue Hawaii.
This one comes just ahead of what can largely be considered Fresco's re-introduction. Dude has been busy in the year or so since his SoulMoney release with MC Tree and has built a back catalog that should serve him well past this upcoming collection. He's bided his time well, linking up with producers from all around the city and putting in the studio hours like a blue-collar third-shifter. On this one, the best kept secret of SaveMoney might have lifted the mystery for good, reuniting with Chance for the first time since his now-iconic Mafioso project and proving his range in the process.
Chance has been just about everywhere the last year or so and this time he once again proves that he's yet to forget about those he spent the come up with. The island vibes of the track fits with the current vibe being dictated from above while the base of the track is directly within both artist's wheelhouse without sounding like anything that's come before it. In talking to FADER who debuted the single earlier today, Fresco said of the track, "I wanted to try something musically I've never done before with my homie Trevor, and despite one of my friends telling me my heart wasn't in it, I still knew this song was a hit. When I took it to the bro Chance, he immediately knew it was a smash as well. Shoutout to Raf and Alex from Blue Hawaii too. I know people didn't expect this collab, but there are many more to come."
Shit is like a Chicago-based "One Dance" with more soul and thicker bassline. Get in this one asap and keep an eye out for that long-awaited Casanova project, due out July 5 with an accompanying show July 7 at Portage Theater.
