Tony Brooks • "Amethyst"
These Days it seems as though music is emanating from all sides of the city, producing in turn a colossal variety of sounds and styles and today we're blessed with a new visual from a fresh face on this side of the scene as Tony Brooks unveiled his video for the single "Amethyst" earlier today.
Lately, a new name to emerge on the scene to take up the mic is none other than Tony Brook$, who’s been hanging around for awhile and began stepping out with his own flavor of artistry just before the summer began creeping in and here he offers up a manifesto for the haters in the shadowy visual shot by Jsalz Films. Intrigued by the title and ensuing video, I did a bit of digging and found out that and amethyst is a purple-tinted crystal that is, “traditionally worn to guard against drunkeness and to instill a sober mind.”
If any of you have met TheseDays' own Westley in the last year or so you’ve likely seen the slowly disintegrating amethyst on his hand. I don’t know if it’s worked for either of them, but it’s certainly an intriguing entrance to the deeper meaning of the track that proves Brook$ is his own man, not willing to sacrifice character or ideals for flash-in-the-pan success. We’ll have to wait and see if his strategy works in the long run, but for now he’s showing he can step out and create pieces that speak to his own brand of work, he “just can’t go back to no basic shit.” True.
