Sicko Mobb (Ft. Jeremih) • "Expensive Taste"
Directed by APJ Films and Marquis Simmons
You don’t know the high-life ‘til you’re rockin’ with the Mobb. The West-side rappers known as Sicko Mobb aren’t just boppers at this point, but a creative power pushing the limits of hip-hop in Chicago. To take them less seriously because of their lighthearted nature would be both ignorant and a serious mistake as a music fan. But if you're behind the times, we've got a new look at “Expensive Taste”, which was the first glimpse of their recent SSV3 project back in December. The track is catchy, subtle, and features an impossibly smooth hook from Jeremih (it’s what he does).
The video is psychedelically shot by APJ Films and Marquis Simmons, awash in fractals, women and the almighty dollar. It’s a total change of course from their usual Chicago street scene camera work, and probably their best visual to date. Given how out-there their music really is, Sicko Mobb definitely deserved a visual that reflected these eccentricities, and they got it. Regardless of whether they develop an affinity for the finer things as success inevitably follows them around, you get the undeniable impression that Sicko Mobb will be staying in their own lane right down to the finish line.
