Premiere • Danny Arcane: "Smoke"

For the last year or so we've been intermittently hit with some new music coming out of Milwaukee. It seems more and more that the metropolis just to our north churns out talent that arrives with increasing frequency and this week we get a transplant from Brew City in Danny Arcane who offers up a blustery new visual for his single, "Smoke". Arcane should be fairly recognizable to anyone who's caught our monthly Yung Creatives talk show or just about any show or concert that occurs at Soho House in town, serving as the in-house audio tech and here he proves he can do much more than just push the knobs and lay the wires. Arcane has been a regular on the site and appears to take marked steps forward with each subsequent release. This one benefits from some clever camera work and plenty of clouds. Check out the visual above and our Q+A with the man himself below and check back soon for more new music via TheseDays.

TheseDays • Take us through the idea behind this single?

Arcane • It's a song made for riding around late at night thinking about life. There's a lot of songs about smoking to have a good time which the verses cover but in the hook I wanted to twist it to a less talked about reason we smoke. And that's to cope with life sometimes. The times you light up by yourself to really get inside your head or to try and forget about the reoccurring existential crisis that I hope I'm not the only one that feels.

TheseDays • You seem to spend time on your visuals, how does this one accentuate the art?

Arcane • I like to spend a lot of time on every aspect of my art. I have my hands on everything from beginning to end. With this video I really wanted to make the smoke look as smooth and hypnotizing as I felt the track was. I wanted the visuals to really capture the difference between the verse and the hook and I think the color changes really accomplished that.

TheseDays • What kind of emotion are you trying to capture here, how would you characterize this sound?

Arcane • Start off vibing and end up contemplating. Dark, moody yet chill.

TheseDays • What should listeners keep an eye out for?

Arcane • I have two EPs planned for 2017. An Indie/alt rap project and a back to basics bragging rights hip hop project. Both have visuals that I'm excited to bring to life. But you should keep an eye on my website DannyArcane.com for all my material and any show updates.
