Joseph Chilliams • "Jelly"

See this content in the original post

While many would rather chase clout and popularity, Pivot’s Joseph Chilliams stands out as a disruptive force in our local scene due to his passion in creating art solely for that purpose. His music is filled with scattered thoughts and funny pop-culture references, but it never shies away from its genuine feelings or emotions. Even when his delivery seems a bit detached or too abstract, Chilliams never sounds fraudulent. In the thumping single “Jelly,” the West Side native uses free association to rap some of his best lines all the while regarding a wide-array of topics that we rarely see being addressed in the genre. From finding a dance partner through Wala Cam to more serious issues such as sexual assaults on college campuses, Joseph Chilliams wittingly shakes off hip-hop’s boundaries and breaks new ground for emcees to express themselves. Listen to the Sev Seveer-produced record above.
