Vic Spencer • "It's On Pt.II"
For Vic Spencer, it's kind of always on but the veteran MC puts his foot down going into the new year with this single that found the light of day early on New Year's Eve. This one, which comes with production from House Shoes, appears to be a loosie offering that comes on the tail-end of one of the more forward-moving and interesting years in the seemingly ageless rapper's career.
Here, we get some straight through bars "live from Chiraq" from Spencer, who saw his most recent project, The Cost of Victory came in at No. 19 on Rolling Stone's Top 50 albums of the year. Dude has been grinding for a minute and while his Twitter antics can often undercut the work he puts in the studio, it's hard not to appreciate the year this self-made PR machine put together for himself.
Earlier during these holiday times Vic also had time to get up with frequent collaborator Chris Crack for a furtherance of the duo's work as Chris Spencer with the release of "2 Gun Emoji". The pairing is a welcome one that plays off each other with relative ease. While I'm against the increased role of emojis in song names, this one is reliable for consistent bars throughout that underline both artist's innate rapping ability.
Never one to be subtle, Spencer also counted down his favorite Vic Spencer Twitter moments via his own account earlier today which included online beefs with Mick Jenkins and Lupe Fiasco, among others. Check the tweets scattered throughout here and keep an eye out for Spencer and co in 2016, who knows how he'll pop up next.
