Kanye West Announces Album with Drake, Could It Break Sales Numbers?
Fresh off joining Drake on a pair of stages in both artist's hometowns, it appears Kanye West is taking their relationship even further, announcing this morning that he is working on a collaborative project with none other than the 6ix God. While the teased project would easily be one of the biggest releases of any year based purely on each individual's singular portfolio. While that much is obvious, what isn't is the fact that Drake and Kanye may just be uniquely suited to create on of the most timeless projects in recent memory.
For starters, the two are readily familiar with one another, having existed in each other's orbit since Drake broke into the scene in 2007, when Kanye was asserting himself atop the game at large. They both have experience creating projects with other big names. 'Ye with Jay Z on Watch The Throne and a bevy of high-profile features since and Drake with his millenial-mindset-ed What A Time To Be Alive. All this is not to even mention the fact that both Drake and Kanye possess the strongest brands in hip-hop today, packaged with a pop culture persona that could blow away sales numbers, regardless of how they're gathered. One sticking point will be where such a project would live. With no certainty of any exact landing spot, the long-standing feud between Apple Music and TiDAL could prove to hit a breaking point upon the advent of such a project.
Performing at Drake's OVO Fest Sunday night for a second "surprise" performance in a week, Kanye rocked the new single from the pairing, "Pop Style" which they performed together before Kanye announced that the pair would '100%' be releasing a project together, it appears they'll just have to figure out where exactly.
