Chicago Shows Out for Timbuck2 Celebration at The Metro (Video)
It's been a little over a year since the Chicago hip-hop scene took the everlasting punch to the gut that was the news of local mainstay DJ Timbuck2's passing just before Christmas 2015. While his death wasn't wholly surprising to those close to him, he had been fighting renal cancer for several years prior, it was and has continued to be a huge loss for a scene that has gotten used to more wins than losses as of late.
To commemorate his legacy, a large contingent from the city's scene got together at The Metro to toast to the memories the protege of Twilite Tone offered up in his 34 years on this earth. Included were a long list of DJ sets too deep to accurately recount, performances from the likes of Joey Purp, EPMD, Mano, Clark Kent, Rich Medina and more,. With plenty of love in the air, the packed affair attracted faces from all sides of the city, from the streetwear fashion to the music and everything that exists in the general orbit. As we all continue to move forward in our own individualized attempts at adding something to the larger construct around us, it's encouraging to see the affect an honest life lived can have on others and Tuesday night was a true affirmation of one man's impact. Our man Jackson Duncan was on hand for it all, riding through to the early morning hours when the last of the party-goers dipped through the front doors onto Clark st. Check it all out above and make sure to give your friends an extra hug this holiday season.
