Mama Million • Mamacita & Hershey Kisses feat. Mello Buckzz

The summer anthem title is arguably the most coveted and elusive accolade in Chicago hip-hop. The city toughs out relentless winters, so people really go hard for those records that can soundtrack the summer’s cathartic highs.

“Mamacita” by Mama Million is a late entry to the summer anthem conversation and likely still too hyperlocal, but the record has been getting steam and it’s hard to deny its quality. With producer HardKnock providing the brooding strings and pummeling 808s, Mama finds a couple of fun pockets to deliver a memorable hook and a verse that showcases her personality.

“I want the hardest liquor out, I don’t want no Margarita,” Mama raps, alluding to the song’s loose Spanish theme. She’s got a dozen similarly memorable lines in the span of a minute, making it a really fun record that packs a punch.

Mama Million undoubtedly has momentum on her side and following the release of “Mamacita” she decided to drop another great single in “Hershey Kisses” featuring Mello Buckzz (who likely has the 2023 Chicago summer anthem title with “Boom”). The two rappers approach modern-day drill with their own stylistic variations, making the dynamic entertaining from start to finish.
